Rachel Adopts A Family This Christmas Season

Urban Music Group recording artist Rachel Brown understands the significance of the proverbial saying, “to whom much is given, much is expected.” That is why Brown, whose debut single reached #1 on the Billboard R&B singles sales chart, will donate a $250 Visa gift card to a special family this Christmas season in hopes of brightening their holiday.

Brown wants her “Every Little Bit Helps” campaign to bring holiday cheer to a family that otherwise wouldn’t be able to celebrate a nice traditional Christmas celebration. “Being with your family is wonderful during the holiday season,” states the chart topping singer. But for some families, being together and not being able to enjoy a nice traditional holiday meal or to have gifts for the children to open can dampen the holiday spirit. That’s why I wanted to do something, even if it’s a small amount, because with the economy the way it is right now I do believe every little bit helps.”

Through her website blog, Brown is asking all of her fans from across the nation to recommend families that are in need. She has a special committee that will read through the nominations and select the family with the most compelling story and present them with the Visa gift card on December 15th.

“I’ve been blessed this year,” states Brown. “I recorded and released my first CD, which was a dream come true for me. I was blessed to have a song that went #1 on the singles sales chart. I’ve been able to pursue my dreams full time, and I’ve got wonderful fans that have supported me along the way. So, I’m truly fortunate. Now, I want to give something back. I want to bless someone, just as I have been blessed. Most of all, I hope I can inspire someone to do the same, no matter how big or small because every little bit does help. I think that is what the spirit of Christmas is all about.”

To nominate a family, simply reply to this blog post your contact email, and the story of the family you are nominating। Names and locations of the family nominated are not needed at this time। Should your story be selected, you will be contacted via email. You will have 24hours to respond to the email or the next family will be selected. Once you are contacted via email a member from the selection committee will speak with you personally by phone to get the family information needed to present the visa card. We are asking each person to nominate only the families that are in need of assistance to make their Christmas a special one.

Thoughts & Prayers For Jennifer

I'd like to send out my deepest sympathy to one of the greatest singers of our time "Jennifer Hudson". Words cannot express what she's probably experiencing during what is undoubtably the worst time of her life right now. I'm sure it's extremely hard for her and her family and I'm asking that all of us continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers so that she can get through these hard times! Hello Everyone....

I am extremely excited to endorse our "future" President, Barack Obama as my candidate of choice for this election! I feel like he is the man to get the job done! Its very exciting to me to see someone as intelligent and insightful as he is in the position as nominee for such an important role!

I am asking for everyone to make sure to register to vote if you haven't already...and if you have let's show up at the polls early November 4th to make history and vote the better qualified candidate into office!

As you know this is an election year and we have a very important election in 2008. We’ve already made history by electing our very first African American to represent the democratic party as a candidate for President of the United States. Our next step is to make sure he’s elected to be the first black President. How awesome will that be for our children and our children’s children to know that they can truly become anything they’d like to become and to actually have a role model that has set the example for them?

What a truly amazing feeling that will be. So with that said, lets make sure we register to vote! And once you register, or if you are already registered, let your voice be heard!

Black Infant Mortality

Attention All….

Black babies in Broward County, FL are dying at more than twice the rate of white babies! This is a startling but true statistic. Community stakeholders, Urban Music Group, and myself have joined forces with the Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition of Broward County with a Call to Action in order to raise awareness of this very important issue in our communities.

If you are pregnant or know someone who is we are asking that you seek appropriate prenatal care because “every baby is our responsibility.” Seeking care as soon as possible after conception is one way we can help reduce the immortality rate of our children…..let’s work together to spread the word and save our children……(look for more ways in future blogs)

I wanna hear your stories, have you lost a child or know someone who has? Tell us your story......you may save someone’s life….

What Cha Wearin?

Summer is here and its hot outside for real….and if u are anything like me you're trying to shed a few winter pounds so u can wear the latest summer gear!

When I’m in chill mode I like to be fashionable but comfortable, so, I’ve fallen in love with sun dresses! My favorite ones are the long ones, the longer the better…why u might ask? Well, I’m a tall girl so I’d like to send a shout out and big ups to all the tall women in the world cause they finally came up with dresses with us in mind, and not only that…they just seem to be really comfortable, classy, and fashionable! I absolutely love the colorful ones. My favorites are blues and pinks, but yellow’s sneakin’ in on 'em cause it’s a hot color this year…..I wanna know what you're favorite gear is for the summer....whatcha wearin?

Back In Stride

I would like to first apologize to all my fans for taking so long to get back to you with what’s going on with me….I’m new at this blogging thing and I still learning to remember to stay on top of things! Thanks for your patience…

On Friday, March 28 I did a concert at Hollywood Artspark. I would like to thank each and every one of you who came out to support me. We had a great night! Its always nice to look out into the audience and see that people love and enjoy your music just as much as you do. I would like to especially thank the guy who came and handed me the beautiful bottle with gold nuggets inside. Its very touching to receive something from fans who just want to show their support by giving you their last! God Bless You and your family. Special thanks goes out to the city of Hollywood for your continued support your kindness and cooperation has been extremely helpful and greatly appreciated!

SXSW Recap

Hello Everybody.....what an exciting weekend....I just returned home from Austin,Tx. performing in SXSW!! SXSW is an industry related event which showcases over 1600 bands in one weekend!

It was a spectacular event, there were people representing from all over the world. We performed Saturday night 8pm at The Driskill Hotel. We kicked the night off with my fresh tune Weekend and ended with Spend the Night and left the stage smoking for other great artists such as: Renee Sebastian, Maya Azucena, Russell Taylor and many more.

The networking at SXSW is endless...there was so much to see and so many great opportunities. It is definitely an experience for indie artist like myself to find out whats available for us. I had the opportunity to be featured on sonicbids.com and metromix.com and also had great press in my hometown Lufkin Tx. (special shout out to Lufkin for showing ya girl so much love). Overall, it was a fabulous experience and I am looking forward to the next one.
